Meander Valley Australia Day Award recipients to be celebrated at rescheduled event
Posted on February 17, 2022
Council anticipates a formal recognition of local heroes following the Australia Day event delay.
Meander Valley Council has rescheduled its Australia Day awards presentation event for late March after it was postponed due to COVID-19.
The event will be held at the Country Club Casino on 29 March and will be combined with a citizenship ceremony.
Mayor Wayne Johnston said Council was looking forward to the celebrations.
“We were disappointed to have to cancel the awards event in January due to COVID-19 but feel the timing is now right to reschedule the event on a smaller scale,” Mayor Johnston said.
“The Australia Day Awards are a highlight for Council as it’s a wonderful opportunity to recognise those who make a valuable contribution to our community through their leadership and volunteering.
“There’s no doubt that the uncertain times brought about by COVID-19 has impacted on our volunteers so it is even more important that we show our appreciation of their hard work and be inspired by their stories. Combining the awards event with a citizenship ceremony will give us even more cause to celebrate.”
The event will be held from 4.30 pm – 6 pm at the Mt Pleasant Showroom at the Country Club Casino. Numbers are limited and those wishing to attend should email merrilyn.young@mvc.tas.gov.au
