Citizenship ceremonies

Meander Valley Council takes great pride in welcoming new Australian citizens and conducts Citizenship Ceremonies on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs.

Conferees are required to pledge their allegiance to Australia and its laws, after which, they are presented with a Citizenship Certificate.

The Citizenship Ceremony is the final step in becoming an Australian Citizen. The ceremony can only be undertaken once approval has been granted from the Department of Home Affairs.

When approval has been granted, Council will contact you to arrange a time for the Citizenship Ceremony to be undertaken.

For eligibility requirements and to apply for citizenship, you will need to contact the Department of Home Affairs

For more information about arranging a Citizenship Ceremony, phone Council on 6393 5300

Council does offer a Justice of the Peace service, pending availability of qualified members of staff. Outside of this service, there are a number of providers across the municipality. To find a Justice of the Peace near you, click here
