Council welcomes 22 new citizens to Meander Valley
Council’s citizenship ceremony was held in Westbury on Tuesday 23 November. The event saw 22 people take their final step to become citizens.
Participants hailed from South Korea, United Kingdom, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Philippines and New Zealand.
Mayor Johnston identified diversity as a key feature of Meander Valley. “We all have our own background and experiences and it is important that we celebrate that. Each of us have something unique to bring to our municipality.”
Citizenship ceremonies are officiated by Meander Valley Council on behalf of the Australian Government and they are an important day for those making their pledge.
People go through various steps to become a citizen and the citizenship ceremony is the final stage of this process in which conferees make a pledge of commitment to Australia.
“Our new citizens have not only decided to call Australia home, but also Meander Valley and we are delighted to welcome them.” Mayor Johnston said.
The next ceremony is scheduled for 26 January 2022 and will be held at the Australia Day Breakfast in Chudleigh.
