Following a recount by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission, Deborah White has been re-elected to Meander Valley Council, filling the seat vacated by Michael Kelly’s resignation.

Councillor White undertook her Declaration of Office at the Meander Valley Council Chambers in Westbury today at midday, alongside the Council’s General Manager, Jonathan Harmey.

Mayor Wayne Johnston, Deputy Mayor Stephanie Cameron, Councillor Ben Dudman, Councillor Anne-Marie Loader, Councillor Kevin House, Councillor John Temple, council directors, and staff were also present.

A long-time Meander Valley resident, Councillor White returns with over a decade of prior service on the Council.

“Councillor White is no stranger to council, having previously served for over 11 years; she brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the Meander Valley community,” said Meander Valley Council’s Mayor Wayne Johnston.

“Deb’s commitment to the Meander Valley is well-known, and we’re thrilled to have her back on board,” Mayor Johnston said.

“Her previous contributions on council have had a lasting positive impact, and I have no doubt she’ll continue to advocate for our community with the same dedication and passion,” Mayor Johnston said.

Councillor White’s focus on community development, environmental advocacy and support for local arts have been hallmarks of her previous contribution to the region.

“I’m honoured to return to the Council and serve the Meander Valley community once again. This region holds a special place in my heart, and I’m committed to continuing the work, focussing on the projects that matter most to our residents,” said incoming Meander Valley Councillor Deborah White.

“I’m eager to work on initiatives that create positive change for our region—whether through supporting local businesses, improving infrastructure, or fostering opportunities for our young people,” Councillor White said.

Before and during her previous terms on the Council, Councillor White worked as a teacher, counsellor, and school guidance officer, retiring in 2013. She remains passionate about youth engagement.

“It’s not just about addressing today’s challenges,” Councillor White continued, “but about planning for the future of Meander Valley—a future that benefits all generations.”

“Councillor White’s return to Meander Valley Council will be invaluable as we continue working towards making Meander Valley a vibrant and sustainable place to live.” Mayor Wayne Johnston concluded.
