Council is hosting an event in Meander next month to celebrate a new beginning for the town’s former primary school.
Mayor Wayne Johnston said Council wanted to thank the Meander community for the role it played in the process to find a new operator for the site.
“The Meander community has worked with us throughout this process and we have greatly appreciated the input and feedback,” Mayor Johnston said.
“Together we have achieved a fantastic result of our community and an exciting new chapter for the much-loved former Meander Primary School which will see it transformed into Meander House.
“There’s a feel of optimism in the community with Deloraine House taking over the lease for the site to deliver services and support to vulnerable individuals and families in the greater Meander community.
“The new Meander House will be a great asset for our community and the agreement will also allow community members to use part of the site for events and other activities.”
Meander House is expected to open its doors in November.
Council is organising a family community BBQ at the former school site on Saturday, 1 October between 12.30pm and 2.30pm to thank the community and celebrate the new milestone.
“We encourage members of the Meander community to come along and enjoy a BBQ with Councillors, Council officers and members of Deloraine House,” Mayor Johnston said.
“It’s Council’s chance to say thank you to all who have worked with us to achieve this great outcome and a secure future for the former school.”
