Deloraine Squash Courts Grand Opening - A Vibrant New Community Space
Posted on December 12, 2024
The Meander Valley community celebrates a major milestone today with the official opening of the newly developed Deloraine Squash Courts. The $3.7 million project, driven by the advocacy of the Deloraine Squash Club, has been brought to life with funding support from both the State and Federal Governments.
Meander Valley Mayor Wayne Johnston joined Mr. Brian Mitchell MP Federal Member for Lyons, Mr. Mark Shelton MP State Member for Lyons, Meander Valley Councillors, Council staff, and members of the community to mark the occasion. In his address, Mayor Johnston highlighted the significance of the community’s role in realising the project:
“The development of these courts wouldn’t have been possible without the collective effort and vision of many. On behalf of Meander Valley Council, I’d like to acknowledge and thank the Deloraine Squash Club for their advocacy, the State and Federal Governments, who without their funding support, this project would not have been possible, and the community for their continued enthusiasm and support.”
Mayor Johnston underscored the value of the upgraded facility, saying:
“Facilities like these are not just about sport; they’re about connection. They give us spaces to challenge ourselves, share experiences, and build a stronger, healthier community. And that’s what makes the Meander Valley such a wonderful place to live and play.”
The development is the result of collaborative efforts between the Deloraine Squash Club, government funding, Meander Valley Council’s project team, contractors, and the local community.
Designed for seasoned players and newcomers alike, the courts are set to become a vibrant hub for sport and connection. This purpose-built facility, located next to the existing Deloraine Community Complex, features four high-quality courts and fully equipped locker room facilities to create the ideal environment for players of all levels. More than just a building, these courts provide a welcoming space where skills will be honed, and the vibrant spirit of Meander Valley
will continue to thrive.
Mayor Johnston encouraged residents to take full advantage of the facility, concluding:
“I encourage you all to make the most of this fantastic facility. Whether you’re here to compete, socialise, or simply give something new a go, these courts are here for you.”
The Deloraine Squash Courts stand as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and partnerships, ready to inspire games, friendships, and memories for years to come.
