Significant milestone for the future of the former Meander Primary School

Expressions of Interest are now open for the former Meander Primary School Site
The process to determine the future of the former Meander Primary School has taken a significant step forward today.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open for parties interested in establishing a community purpose use for the former school. Community members are also invited to nominate for a position on the EOI shortlisting group.
Mayor Wayne Johnston said this marked an important milestone in the process.
“Councillors and staff have been working closely with the community to determine the qualities, attributes and future management scenarios for the former school that best represent broad community support and are self-sustaining,” Mayor Johnston said.
“We have so far held two community consultation sessions with residents and gathered some crucial information which has helped shape the Expression of Interest process going forward.
“Today, we are in a position to call for Expressions of Interest for the future use of the site. We are also encouraging community members to be a part of the shortlisting group which will make recommendations to council on the preferred option going forward.”
Those who submit an EOI must first demonstrate it aligns with community aspirations and expectations.
“For many Meander residents, the former school has played an important role in their lives so it is important that anyone who submits and EOI is prepared to listen and consult with the community,” Mayor Johnston said.
“Council has gone to great lengths to ensure the community has been involved in this process every step of the way and it is crucial we find an operator who will commit to continuing this engagement.
“It is hoped we can explore all the possibilities together and find a solution that will benefit our community into the future.”
Council will run another consultation session in February where those considering submitting an EOI will have the opportunity to pitch their proposal to the community.
