Council is hosting an open event for the community to review what people have said about how the former Meander Primary School site should be used.

Mayor Wayne Johnston said the forum would be an opportunity for community members to come together and collaborate on common goals.

“The community put forward a wealth of ideas at Council’s first consultation session in August and now the focus is on exploring the ‘how’, Mayor Johnston said.

“Some people who attended the first session thought a brainstorming style event might allow residents time to discuss ideas and develop shared goals across the community and Council agreed this would be a valuable process.”

This event will be an opportunity for people to speak amongst themselves, share ideas and perhaps join with others to support developing a proposal to submit in the Expression of Interest process. Information on the Expression of Interest and community shortlisting processes will also be available.

The evening will focus on the four main future use themes put forward by the community at the first consultation session: community hub; education and learning; community services and tourism.

“Council is pleased with the way the community has embraced this process so far and we are committed to ensuring they are heavily involved from start to finish,” Mayor Johnston said.

“Our goal is to find a use for the site that will enhance our community and bring many social benefits to the Meander Valley region into the future.”

The community session will be held at the Meander Hall on Wednesday, 27 October from 5pm to 6.30pm.
