Meander Valley Council’s General Manager, John Jordan has announced he is leaving Council.
Meander Valley Council’s General Manager, John Jordan has announced he is leaving Council.
“It is an extremely difficult decision for me as I have had the honour of working with a fantastic range of people in Council and across the community. Council has an outstanding management team and staff, who all work extremely hard to achieve so much for the community. The community we serve is overwhelmingly full of generous people who are simply ‘real’, and it is a wonderfully satisfying part of the role to be able to help such people and to have been so welcomed since moving to Tasmania”. Mr Jordan said.
“Wayne Johnston as Mayor has been exemplary and a great support from day one and certainly helped me to understand the ‘community interest’ at the heart of what we do. I have also been fortunate to have worked with some great councillors both before and after the recent election who are equally focused on the community.”
“With my existing contract up for renewal, it has been a time of reflection in terms of the things I want to achieve in my career, life and personally. I feel that it is the right time to act on other ambitions and have decided not to seek re-appointment to give focus to these interests.”
Mayor Johnston paid tribute to Mr Jordan’s dedicated service and his commitment to the General Manager role and the people of Meander Valley.
“Local government is complex and challenging at the best of times. John’s leadership was apparent when three weeks into the role he faced the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has moved the organisation forward, tackling some long-standing issues and has overseen improvements and achievements in waste, climate change, information technology, Indigenous recognition, flood recovery and so much more. He leaves Council in a strong financial and operational position”.
“While we are sorry to see John go, we understand the reasons for his decision and are grateful for his leadership, direction and dedication to our community. On behalf of all Councillors, I thank him for his efforts and commitment to leading Meander Valley through some difficult years,” Mayor Johnston said.
Mr Jordan will continue in his role at Meander Valley Council until mid-July 2023.
