Volunteer Awards Awards

Each year, we honour the people who make Meander Valley Council special. The Australia Day and Volunteer Awards celebrate those who go above and beyond through their service, kindness, and dedication. 

Do you know an inspiring individual, organisation, event, or volunteer program? 

Nominate them today and help us recognise the efforts that make our region a vibrant and caring community.

Nominations can be written or digital (Video or Audio)

Written Applications A short statement of why you are nominating the person. Four questions - max 50 words each. It's simple! 

Digital Applications (Video or Audio) Do it a little differently - Make it into a story - turn the 4 questions into a recorded interview. No longer than 5 minutes.

Digital file maybe emailed to community@mvc.tas.gov.au or uploaded through the form below. JPG formats will be accepted, to a maximum 5MB in size. 


Awards Categories

Volunteering Service Awards – In recognition of volunteer service and contribution to community.

  1. Club or Organisation Service Award.
  2. Individual volunteer service and contribution award. (up to 1,3,5,10+ years)

Citizen of the Year Award (30 years or older) 

Honours an individual whose generosity, commitment and achievements have made a lasting and meaningful contribution to the Meander Valley community.

Young Citizen of the Year Award (under 30 years of age)

Honours a young individual whose generosity, commitment and achievements have made a lasting and meaningful contribution to the Meander Valley community.

Lifetime Contribution Award 

Honours a young individual whose generosity, commitment and achievements have made a meaningful long-term contribution to the Meander Valley community. 

Meander Valley Arts and Culture Award 

Recognises outstanding effort by an individual or group that has made an outstanding contribution to cultural pursuits in the Meander Valley, through visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, or cultural heritage.

 Meander Valley Sports Award 

Recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to any sport in a competitive, administrative, organisational, mentoring or coaching role.

Meander Valley Stewardship Award

Recognises individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the conservation, preservation, education or management of the natural or the cultural heritage of the Meander Valley area.

Meander Valley Business Citizen of the Year Award

Recognises a business that seeks to promote the welfare of others, demonstrated by outstanding involvement and contribution to the community and good causes.

Community Project of the Year Award 

Recognizes outstanding community-driven projects that have made a significant positive impact on Meander Valley. 

Community Event of the Year Award 

Recognises an individual, organisation or community group who have staged an outstanding community program or event during the year. 


Eligibility 

All nominees must be a resident of the Meander Valley Council at the time of nomination.

Selection Criteria 

Outstanding Contribution • Achievements • Inspiration / role model • Service to community • Encourages community participation and involvement.

Judging Process 

Nominations will be reviewed by the appointed judging panel. The Judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Award Recipients 

Award recipients will be announced at a ceremony on 22 January 2026 – details below.

Join us at the Westbury Village Green for the Volunteer Awards Ceremony. 

When: Thursday, January 22, 2026 

Time: 5 - 9pm

Where:  Westbury Village Green (if weather permits [celebrations will move to the Westbury Town Hall in adverse weather outcomes])
