Councillor Dornauf has been an esteemed member of council, contributing significantly to the community over the course of his dedicated service.
Mayor Wayne Johnston expressed his appreciation for Councillor Dornauf’s commitment and zeal for the Meander Valley community.
“It is with a heavy heart that we accept the resignation of Councillor Lochie Dornauf. His passion for the community and tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on our council and the residents of Meander Valley,” Mayor Johnston said.
Councillor Dornauf described his time on council as one of the great joys of his career when he announced his intention to resign during Council’s meeting in January.
“It’s been 412 days that I’ve been on council since our last election. I was certainly hoping it would be 1460, the full totality of our 4 years, but my partner and I have decided to move overseas for one year of work and travel,”
“I don’t believe I can continue with the full 100% commitment that I should have in this role and as such I have decided my time on council has come to an end,”
Councillor Dornauf expressed his heartfelt thanks to his fellow councillors and the residents of the Meander Valley.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time over the last year and a bit. Especially getting to know my fellow councillors and understanding how we can best work with each other to best serve the incredible community of Meander Valley.” Councillor Dornauf said.
“The valley will always be home for me, not only because I grew up here, but because of the people who make this place so special.”
Mayor Johnston acknowledged the significant impact Councillor Dornauf has had on the council’s initiatives his contributions to the region, driven by his deep love of the Meander Valley.
“Councillor Dornauf has been a steadfast advocate for the people of the Meander Valley and his dedication to fostering community engagement and driving positive change has been evident in our council’s accomplishments.”
Informed according to the Local Government Act 1993, Meander Valley Council has requested the Tasmanian Electoral Commission perform a recount of the voting results from October 2022’s election to decide on who will take the vacant seat.
