Pensioner Rebates

The State Government's Pensioner Rates Remission provides pensioners with a rebate for Council rates. To be eligible to receive the rebate, as at 1 July each year you must:

1. Be the owner and occupier of the property for which you are claiming a remission and the property must be your (principal) place of residence.

2. Have one of the following valid cards:
• Pensioner Concession Card (PCC)
• Health Care Card (HCC) (Seniors Health Care Cards do not qualify)
• Department of Veteran Affairs "Gold Card" (must be endorsed War Widow or TPI)
* An Australian Government Seniors Health Card does NOT qualify the holder for a rates remission

Applications for Pensioner Rate Remissions must be received by 31 March to receive the rebate that financial year. (eg. applications for the 2022/2023 financial year must be received no later than 31 March 2023). Retrospective applications can be submitted, however, conditions apply. When to use this form

Use this form if you would like to apply for pensioner remission on your rates

You will need to attach a copy of your pension card to this application. The card holder must be legally responsible for the rates on the property and it must be the card holder's main principal place of residence. There is a limit of one remission per year, per pensioner household.

An Australian Government Seniors Health Care Card does not qualify the cardholder for a rates remission.

Please note: these rebate provisions are detailed under the Local Government (Rates and Charges Remissions) Act 1991 (Tas). Eligibility of a pensioner remission is determined by the state government’s Department of Treasury and Finance.

Authorise:

  • The Meander Valley Council and the Department of Treasury and Finance (Treasury) to use Centrelink Confirmation eServices to perform a Centrelink/DVA enquiry of my Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs customer details and concession card status in order to enable the Council and Treasury to determine if I qualify for a concession, rebate or service.
  • Services Australia (the agency) to provide the results of that enquiry to the Council and Treasury.
I understand that:

  • The agency will disclose personal information to the Council and Treasury including my name /address/payment type/ payment status and concession card type and status to confirm my eligibility for a rates remission.
  • This consent, once signed, remains valid while I am a customer of the Council unless I withdraw it by contacting the Council or the agency. I can get proof of my circumstances/ details from the agency and provide it to the Council and Treasury so my eligibility for a rates remission can be determined.
  • if I withdraw my consent or do not alternatively provide proof of my circumstances/details, I may not be eligible for the rates remission provided by the Council and Treasury.
In making this application I:

if you fail to advise Council of the charges outlined above or make a false and misleading statement, the commissioner may commence action to have a fine imposed.
