Westmorland Falls is putting its best foot forward with the significantly upgraded walking track officially opened today by the Hon Rebecca White MP, alongside Acting Mayor Stephanie Cameron and representatives from Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Meander Valley Council

The extensive works transform access to one of Meander Valley’s favourite short walks, making the experience safer, sturdier and more enjoyable so that this iconic natural experience can be enjoyed for many more years to come.

Acting Mayor Cameron said the scale of the works reflected how valued the track is.

“Westmorland Falls is well loved, and these improvements are anything but minor. They future‑proof the track and help people enjoy the landscape in all conditions,” Acting Mayor Cameron said.

Delivered in partnership with the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service, the upgrade includes new elevated fibreglass reinforced plastic walkway, access road improvements, and upgrades to existing boardwalk sections.

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service Parks and Reserves Manager (Central North) Ian Sather spoke of the upgrades.

“Upgrades to this track include a 100‑metre elevated walkway leading to Westmorland Falls. These upgrades have helped preserve the environment and offer a more enjoyable walking experience for visitors,” Mr Sather said.

Triple planking, chicken wire surfacing and the removal of old timber stair risers all contribute to a safer and more resilient track surface year‑round. A five‑metre walkway extension and new handrail at the falls complete the works, bringing walkers a closer view of the iconic falls while helping to protect the surrounding environment from erosion.

“Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service is delighted to work with the Meander Valley Council and local stakeholders on upgrading several short walks in the region.

“Westmorland Falls is a great, family‑friendly walk that showcases the tall eucalypt forest and tree ferns for which this area is renowned,” Mr Sather said.

The collaboration ensures Westmorland Falls continues to play a standout role in situating Meander Valley as the Short Walks Capital, offering locals and visitors a welcoming, well‑maintained walk that adds to the region’s tourism appeal.

These works reinforce Meander Valley’s position as the Short Walks Capital, highlighting a region where high‑quality tracks open the door to unforgettable natural experiences just moments from town and trailhead.

“Westmorland Falls are part of what makes Tasmania so special, and these upgrades mean Tasmanians and visitors can enjoy one of the region’s best short walks for years to come,” Ms White said.

“The Albanese Labor Government’s investment in this track has delivered a safer, more accessible walk, while protecting the surrounding environment that makes this walk so special.”

The upgraded Westmorland Falls Track is now open. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to take a walk, take it in, and enjoy a track that makes the journey to the falls even more rewarding.
