Cat Prohibited Areas Declared at Deloraine & Westbury Waste Depots

Posted on August 04, 2025

From Wednesday 13 August 2025, Deloraine Waste Depot (54 Tip Road) and Westbury Waste Depot (179 Cluan Road) will be Cat Prohibited Areas under the Cat Management Act 2009.

This means cats found in these areas may be trapped, seized or detained by authorised persons. In some cases, humane euthanasia may occur, in line with legislative requirement. Actions are guided by expert advice and aim to reduce risk to local wildlife, livestock, pets, and public health.

The declaration follows a public notice issued on 28 June 2025 and a subsequent consultation period. We thank everyone who shared their feedback.

Feral cats are increasingly present around the waste depots, contributing to ecological impacts and public health concerns. Both depots are required to manage nuisance animals under their operating licences.

If you’re a cat owner, please ensure your pet is desexed, microchipped, and safely contained at home. These small actions help protect our native species and community wellbeing.
