Meander Valley Council has been successful in securing over $874k in grant funding from the Australian Government for land transport projects.

“Council has actively sought funding opportunities that will enable us to bring projects forward to support Meander Valley’s economic recovery from COVID-19,” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.

The funding comes from the Australian Government’s Infrastructure Investment Program and Meander Valley has secured the third highest allocation in the State.

Works submitted for consideration include road and bridge reconstruction projects and road safety improvements. To be eligible for funding, projects had to be ready to commence within the next three to six months.

“Despite the lockdown, Council has been working hard to ensure we had a range of capital works projects ready to go and this focus formed part of our commitment to recovery. I must commend Councillors and Council staff for their rapid and strategic response to the COVID-19 Disease Emergency. This timely investment will be a positive contribution to our economic continuity” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.

The funding from the Australian Government compliments Council’s $1.7m COVID-19 Community Care and Recovery Package that was announced last month which includes grants for small business, event recovery funding for not-for-profit community groups and a range of other support measures.

“Council recognised early, the need to provide both immediate relief and longer term support and our comprehensive Recovery Package reflects that,” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.

Applications for Meander Valley Council’s Small Business and Event Recovery Grants are now open. To apply or for more information on the range of support measures available click here
