Meander Valley Council announces resignation of Councillor Michael Kelly

Meander Valley Council has announced the resignation of Councillor Michael Kelly, effective Tuesday, 10 September 2024.
Councillor Kelly has been an dedicated member of the Council, serving for a collective 13 years, 8 of those years as Deputy Mayor.
“Councillor Kelly’s contributions have been invaluable. His leadership and passion for Meander Valley have made a lasting impact. We will miss his insights and knowledge.” said Meander Valley Council Mayor Wayne Johnston.
Mayor Johnston outlined Councillor Kelly’s strong advocacy for the Meander Valley community, championing numerous initiatives that have significantly improved the quality of life for our residents.
“His commitment to Meander Valley has been evident, particularly through his involvement in several key Council committees, including the Emergency Management and Social Recovery Committee and the Australia Day Awards Committee,” Mayor Johnston said.
“He’s also been a strong supporter of the employees at the Council, working diligently to ensure their efforts have been recognized and valued.”
“Our whole Council extends its heartfelt gratitude for his years of service and dedication. We will miss him,” Mayor Johnston said.
As he embarks on his next chapter, Councillor Kelly’s commitment to continuing to serve the Meander Valley community remains steadfast.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working alongside my fellow Councillors to advocate for the best future for our community,” said outgoing Councillor Michael Kelly.
“It’s been an immense priviledge to serve the people of Meander Valley. As my time on Council comes to an end, I’m excited to continue serving our community as a friend and neighbour.” Councillor Kelly said.
On receipt of Councillor Kelly’s resignation, Meander Valley Council has informed the Tasmanian Electoral Commission, who will perform a recount of the voting results from October 2022’s election to inform who will take the vacant seat.
