Deloraine Recreation Precinct - Demolition Works Begin Wednesday 23 July

Posted on July 17, 2025

As we move into the next stages of demolition at the Deloraine Recreation Precinct, part of our masterplan to rejuvenate this once-loved community space, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the historical significance these buildings hold for the Deloraine community.

Since the mid-1800s, the Deloraine Racetrack has been a vibrant part of the Deloraine community with the Tasmanian Grand National Steeplechase being an annual feature at the site. But time has taken its toll on the clubhouses and hedge steeples with the site falling into disrepair after the use of the racecourse ceased in 2005.

To respect and highlight the rich history that many in the community hold close, key historical elements are being preserved as reminders of the precinct’s proud place in Deloraine’s racing past.

Longstanding features - like the steeples, pergola, grandstand and clubhouse - will remain central to the layout, with all receiving a much-needed touch-up. Removal of the remaining structures, which have fallen into disrepair, will begin on Wednesday 23 July 2025.
