Free Sharps Disposal Service

Free sharps disposal service

Sharps can be dangerous. They are not accepted at any of the waste facilities and must not be disposed of in household or kerbside waste, public rubbish bins, left on the ground or flushed down toilets or drains. Sharps must be disposed of correctly into an approved sharps container and kept out of reach of children. Council provides free sharps containers and a disposal service for diabetic and home-care patients. Sharps include needles, syringes and other sharp objects of a medical nature.

Council can only accept sharps for disposal in approved containers. Approved containers can be collected from reception at the Council Offices, 26 Lyall Street, Westbury.

Approved containers are available in three sizes: 7.8 litres, 3.1 litres and 1.4 litres.

Before dropping full containers off for disposal, secure the lid and place the container in a plastic bag before handing to Council staff.
