Meander Valley prepares to host picturesque cycling challenge this weekend

Get on your bike! Western Tiers Cycle Challenge kicks off this Sunday!
The picturesque Meander Valley is on display this weekend as cyclists descend on the community for the New Horizon’s Western Tiers Cycle Challenge.
Meander Valley Mayor, Wayne Johnston said Council was proud to partner with New Horizons to support the inclusive sporting and community event.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the beauty of our municipality and raise money while enjoying Meander Valley’s spectacular landscape,” Mayor Johnston said.
The Western Tiers Cycle Challenge is a fully escorted, inclusive cycling event for social and competitive riders that raises money to support sport and recreation programs for people with a disability.
“This event encourages people to get active, connect with others and enjoy nature, while improving their health and wellbeing at the same time,” Mayor Johnston said.
“We’re very lucky to have such well-established cycling routes in the area that cater for both professional and recreational riders, allowing us to host such a fantastic event,” he said.
Rides range from 24km up to 140km with the world heritage listed Great Western Tiers mountain range providing a magnificent backdrop to the long distance cycling routes.
Meander Valley Council has sponsored the longest ride that winds 140km through Meander Valley’s rural landscape.
“You don’t have to be a professional cyclist to enter the challenge, with a range of different rides, the whole family can enjoy a fun day of riding,” Mayor Johnston said.
The cycling challenge starts at Prospect Vale Park at 8am on Sunday 2 April, 2023.
