Art Award entrants embrace change, growth and new beginnings...

With a total prize pool of $6,000, local artists are embracing the Art Award's new opportunities
Artists will get a chance to share in $6,000 worth of prizes as the opening of this year’s Meander Valley Art Award draws closer.
Themed Metamorphosis, like its namesake, the Award has been transformed, incorporating new art forms and categories.
“It’s exciting to see the Award re-invented for 2022. With new digital and shed art categories, more people can engage with their creative side,” Arts Deloraine member Dr Craig Zimitat said.
The 2022 Meander Valley Art Award accepts a broad range of media and styles including watercolour, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, oils, digital, textiles, folk art, glass, wood and sculptural works.
Running since 2007, the Award is largely managed by Meander Valley Council in partnership with Arts Deloraine and the Launceston Art Society.
The $6,000 in prize money on offer is the largest prize pool in the Award’s history and could not have been achieved without the generous support of sponsors.
“The sponsorship we have received this year has been incredible. So many businesses and local organisations have really thrown their support behind the development of the arts in Meander Valley and we are so appreciative,” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.
Gold Sponsor, Sarah Williams, owner of Cedar Cottage, Meander has a digital art background and is keen to foster the digital arts in her local community.
“Creativity has an important place in our society and it brings me joy to help support emerging and established artists in Tasmania.”
With six award categories, there is no excuse not to have a go.
“This diversification aims to encourage creatives who don’t consider themselves artists to take the bold step and share their work with the public,” Dr Craig Zimitat said.
The exhibition will officially open on Saturday 1 October 2022 and will run for two weeks in the Westbury Town Hall.
