Posted on January 31, 2025

With extreme heat forecasted to head our way, it's more important than ever to look out for each other. Heatwaves can be tough, especially for our elderly neighbours, kids, and anyone with health conditions.

Here's how we can all stay safe and comfortable together:

Drink Plenty of Water – Even if you're not thirsty, hydrate!

Stay Cool – If you don’t have air conditioning, keep your blinds shut and windows open for that refreshing breeze.

Check on Your Neighbours – A quick call to someone elderly, or unwell could make all the difference.

Wear Light Clothing – Stay comfortable with loose, light-coloured clothes that help keep the heat off.

Protect Yourself Outside – If you need to go out, don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

Pets Are Family Too – Keep pets cool and hydrated, and avoid exercising them during the heat of the day.

Know the Signs of Heat Illness – Dizziness, cramps, and rapid heart rate can signal heatstroke. If in doubt, get medical help immediately, heat-related illness can be life threatening.Let’s all make sure we’re keeping each other safe..

In an emergency, call 000 for help.
