Here is a sneak peek at the All Abilities Nature Play Space Area of the Deloraine Recreation Precinct
After listening to the community and careful planning, we're thrilled to share a sneak peek of the All Abilities Natural Play Space at the Deloraine Recreation Precinct.
Celebrating Deloraine's Racing History
The Deloraine Racetrack has been a part of the local community since the mid-1800s. The Tasmanian Grand National Steeplechase was an annual feature at the site and the traditional hedge steeples planted across the course still remain and are of significant historical value.
Whilst the old grandstand and accompanying buildings may not be retained due to their state of disrepair, as seen in the 3D rending video, the new design preserves the historic steeples.

Stage 1: All Abilities Nature Play Space
Based on your feedback, we made sure the design of the All Abilities Nature Play Space is accessible and highlights the natural beauty that makes our municipality so special. Your input helped shape a space that reflects our community.
Nature Play Mound
Mound to be raised to keep play out of flood zone. Boulders and planted edge to give a forest feel and enable play though the boulders. A universal access ramp to run up the side of the mound and connect into the play space. Swings with inclusive seats and an inclusive carousel placed to the active side, while accessible sand and water play forms a quieter zone on the other side. Water to cascade down the boulders to land at the lower level of the play space.
Access to the double flying fox occurs at this level also. A further ramp up to the platform play to enable a view over the racecourse.
Fort Play
Raised section of play - area and height for take off of slides, (one accessible) Openings for slides to be designed as a binocular opening. Mini binoculars set up on edge as well with steeple chase interpretation nearby. Net play to connect to ground level. Fort to also double as a shelter for seating with potentially more play below. Fireman’s poles to increase the play value of the terrace.
