The State Government has commenced consultation on the Northern Regional Prison proposal after their preferred site was announced on 30 September.

Located at the Valley Central Industrial Precinct just north of Westbury, the site will be subject to an extensive community consultation and planning process with the State Government has arranging a number of community drop in sessions.

Council’s involvement in the project is limited due to their obligation to act as a planning authority but, they can assist the community in accessing the State Government’s community engagement process.

“The State Government’s consultation is expected to be extensive. There are numerous drop in sessions planned and many opportunities for people to have their say,” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.

It is important that residents provide their feedback through the right channels and Council will be working hard to direct people to the right place.

“The State Government wants to hear from residents and the broader community. I encourage everyone who wants to provide feedback to use the avenues the State Government has provided so that it is formally considered as part of the consultation process,” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.

Community drop in sessions are being held at Fitzpatricks Inn, 56 Meander Valley Road, Westbury.

Members of the community can simply drop in on the day, or they can book a 30 minute time slot by emailing northern.prison@justice.tas.gov.au or by contacting Adrian Smith on 0417 529 826
