Council “swings” into consultation on new Westbury playground

The Westbury’s Village Green playground is set for an upgrade and we'd like to ask you about what kinds of equipment you would like to see installed!

The playground on Westbury’s Village Green is set for an upgrade and Council is asking the local community about how they interact with the space and what kinds of equipment they would like to see installed.

“This playground, though modest, is a much loved feature of the Village Green so it’s important that the community has a say about the improvements,” Mayor Wayne Johnston said.

With a budget of $57,000, the project forms part of Council’s 2022-23 works program and aims to provide more opportunity for play for broader age ranges and abilities.

Mayor Johnston said how children play and interact with recreational spaces has changed significantly over the last decade.

“Playgrounds now provide a range of learning experiences that develop balance, spatial awareness and coordination. They are also more inclusive and cater for all abilities with specially designed play equipment such as basket swings.”

Ahead of construction, Council is seeking feedback about the new playground’s colour theme and the type of equipment that the community would like to see incorporated.

“We want to hear from the community about what they like about the current equipment, what they don’t like and what kinds of new play opportunities should be considered as part of the upgrade. This feedback will be integral to the final design,” Mayor Johnston said.

Consultation on the new Westbury Village Green playground starts on Monday 22 August and will run for four weeks.
