Onsite Wastewater Assessment and Disposal

During the course of processing a development, subdivision or building proposal, consideration must be given to environmentally appropriate methods of domestic wastewater treatment and disposal.

Treatment can be by means of a range of different systems depending on design characteristics, site conditions and developer's preferences.

1. Is it necessary to make application for an onsite wastewater disposal system?

The Plumbing Regulations 1994 require that approval be obtained for the installation of an onsite wastewater disposal system. Council officers carry out an assessment of site conditions after which a Special Connection Permit is issued.

2. Do fees apply?

The following fees apply for a Special Connection/Plumbing Permit

  • New Dwelling: $330
  • Dwelling Additions and Alterations Under $5,000: $150
    $5,000 - $20,000: $240
    Over $20,000: $330
