Tips for looking after your dog

• Give your dog regular exercise.
• Provide nutritional food for your dog.
• Make sure your dog has warm, dry shelter.
• When you go away make sure someone else will care for your dog.
• Train your dog.
• Groom your dog.
• Make sure your house and yard is big enough for your dog.
• Make sure you have adequate, secure fencing in your yard.
• Take your dog to the vet for injections and check - ups.

Consider your dog as a long term investment - most dogs live for about ten years!

Advantages in Desexing

• Dogs are cheaper to register if they are desexed.
• Your dog is less likely to escape or wander off if it has been desexed.
• A female dog who hasn't been spayed and is in season, will attract male dogs likely to dig, jump, claw or chew their way onto your property!
• Aggressive, dominant or difficult dogs often calm down after being desexed.
• Desexed male dogs are likely to live longer. They are not exposed to the risks involved in escaping or roaming in search of a female in season.

Clean Up After Your Dog

Attacks

If your dog has a tendency to chase, harass or attack animals or pedestrians you may be charged and prosecuted. Dogs in all areas should be kept in the backyard. Any dog that attacks an animal or person may be seized and detained until the end of court proceedings. A person who is attacked by a dog may sue the owner as well.

Take precautions by muzzling your dog when leading and ensuring you have a strong lead.
