Meander Valley is centrally located in the heart of Northern Tasmania. The municipality covers an area of approximately 3,821 square kilometres that stretches from Prospect Vale in the east (adjacent to Launceston), to Paramatta Creek in the west (a 15 minute drive from Devonport), to Birralee in the north and Liena in the south.

The municipality offers convenient access to the north east and northwest coasts, and provides a conduit for transportation of goods between Hobart in the south and Tasmania's major northern port in Devonport. The population centres of Deloraine, Prospect, Hadspen, Carrick and Westbury are only a short drive to the city of Launceston where there are major regional facilities such as the Launceston General Hospital, University of Tasmania, Australian Maritime College, Institute of TAFE, Launceston Airport and various sectors of commerce and retail. Centrally located in Meander Valley, Deloraine is only 30 minutes drive from the centre of Devonport where there are also major recreational, commercial and industrial facilities.
